Since the start of 2018, Jelson Homes has, via the government backed Help-To-Buy scheme, assisted numerous first- and next-time home buyers from across the East Midlands in moving onto or further up the property ladder. Many forward reservations have also been agreed via the equity loan scheme for the remainder of the year.
However, with earnings of the average Help to Buy loan recipient now almost £10,000 higher than when the scheme was first introduced in 2013, what possible changes could we see?
George Bell from Meridian Mortgages said: “It looks possible that, in due course, changes could be made to curtail the number of loans given out, so that the scheme truly only benefits the first-time-buyer market and those most in financial need.
“Last year £2.9bn of loans were paid out, a jump from £2.1bn the year before. Despite some criticism of where the money is going, Theresa May has promised a further £10bn of investment in the scheme – enough to help fund more than 400,000 new homes.”
Jackie Woodward, Jelson’s sales manager comments: “Help to Buy has been, and continues to be a lifeline for many of our purchasers, particularly those who have already saved a five-per-cent deposit.
“Certainly, without the scheme in place, many aspiring property owners would be forced to remain living in the family home or in rented accommodation, with a house of their own being nothing more than a pipe dream.”
Jelson Homes has a collection of fabulous properties available across a wide variety of developments, all of which are eligible for Help to Buy*. We’re looking forward to helping many more people realise their dream of affordable home ownership.
