Jelson's new £1.2m bridge links Birstall development to Park and Ride in move to cut car journeys
Leicester housebuilder Jelson Homes has completed the construction and installation of a new £1.2 million bridge linking its Hallam Fields development in Birstall with the Loughborough Road Park and Ride.
The bridge reflects Jelson’s commitment to improving the environment, and connects the walkway and cycleway that runs through Hallam Fields with the Park and Ride on the other side of the Loughborough Road.
Once the bridge is opened. residents will have safe, traffic-free access to the public transport system, reducing the need to travel into Leicester City Centre by car. The bridge weighs 76 tonnes and measures 51 metres between abutments.
It was lifted into position via a 500 tonne crane, and required the closure of Loughborough Road over the August bank holiday weekend.
