This week sees New Homes Week 2023, running from 27th February until 3rd March. New Homes Week is an annual celebration and recognition of new build homes, housebuilders and homeowners. The Home Builders Federation created the event to provide an opportunity to share the benefits of buying new.
This year’s theme is ‘make your move’. We’ve pulled together some valuable information to help you understand your options for buying a home in the current market, including our tried and tested Part Exchange scheme* and some of the advantages of buying new.
How does a new build home save money?
There are many benefits to buying a new build home, especially when it comes to saving money on your energy bills. The Housing Builders Federation’s latest report, Watt a Save, has found that owners of new build houses could save £3,100 per year in energy costs.
It's no secret that having a property that is more energy-efficient will help to bring down your energy bill and the standards that new homes are built to are far more energy-efficient than older properties and are being driven by government policies and initiatives to support the fight against climate change.
85% of new build homes have an A or B energy performance certificate (EPC) in comparison to just 4% of comparable older properties. An EPC shows how energy-efficient your home is, the rating scale is based on A-G, with A being the most energy-efficient.
Cost of upgrading
The decision to buy new, renovate or purchase a fixer-upper can be a tough one. There are pros to both a new build and an older property.
One of the main advantages of buying a new build home is that it will be all yours, ready for you to put your stamp on, there's no old wallpaper or interesting paint colours to remove or to ‘make do’ with.
A new build home also allows you to move in as soon as the house is complete, the only person who may need to sell is you, meaning you can avoid complicated selling chains. You don’t have to wait until the house is renovated or live with building work going on. You can just focus on enjoying your new home.
You will be moving into a new community made of people who are all going through the same process as you and enjoying the excitement of their new home.
