Jelson Homes is 130 years old this year – and we’re inviting everyone along to the party!
To celebrate our milestone birthday, we’re holding a special open weekend at our developments in and around the East Midlands.
On Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June, come along and enjoy cupcakes, Prosecco and orange juice at many of our developments, while you take a look at some of the best new homes on offer in the area.
One of Leicestershire's oldest family businesses
Joiner and shopfitter James Jelley first set up in business in Leicester in 1889, laying the foundations for one of the East Midlands’ best-known and most successful building companies.
The firm incorporated as Jelson Homes in 1947 and is still a family business: today Jelson is run by the great-grandsons of the founder.
With developments ranging from Waddington, Lincolnshire, in the north and Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, in the south, we’ve come a long way from our humble origins in Shenton Street, off Humberstone Road – the base of the business until the mid-1950s, when we moved into our present headquarters on Loughborough Road.
In the years since then, Jelson has become a by-word in the region for quality building. We’re one of the few construction companies to continue to use traditional bricks and blocks for our walls, even upstairs. We still have our own joinery shop, manufacturing kitchen components, windows and staircases for our developments.
An achievement worth celebrating
Few other housebuilders can match 130 years continuous trading as a family-owned business. It’s an achievement the Jelley family and all Jelson staff are rightly proud of.
If you’d like to join in the birthday celebrations, check out our birthday weekend page for details of participating developments. We do hope you’ll join us – here’s to the next 130 years!
